Ruth grumbled at the tugging of her bed sheets, blearily opening an eye and staring out into the darkness. There was a nervous figure a few feet away, biting her lip and clutching a little stuffed toy. It was a butterfly, only a small one, but one that she treasured. It was from a day trip where her Uncle Cas had taken her to a Butterfly house and given her the small stuffy, she'd called it Pwetty and it went with her almost everywhere. The twenty-three year old rolled over and shook the figure beside her awake, tugging on the light's switch.

"Wufie, I hadda nightmare..." the tiny female mumbled, muttering into the butterfly's wing. She quivered a little from the chill of the night air, her purple jersey nightdress providing little warmth.

“S’alright, Annie… come here….” Ruth pulled herself upright, pulling the toddler into her lap awkwardly. Noticing that her bed mate was still sleeping, she shook him. “Wake up, Adam, and get some pants on. We’ve got company.”

She was met with a moan from the male beside her, so she thumped him lightly with a pillow. He lazily opened one eye, looking straight at the toddler at the side of the bed. With a yawn, he pulled himself upright. He mumbled sleepily, mostly to himself, about wondering why Annie always bothered Ruth and not her parents, and sat himself up at the side of the bed.

“Don’t look.” He mumbled, this time a little louder, by now all too used to this routine.

Ruth distracted the toddler with a not-so-common cuddle, still weary herself but knowing what would likely come next. “Want to talk about it, Annie?”

“Vere was a-a monster… it hurted you, Wufie…” she sniffled in reply, nose buried in the shoulder of Ruth’s t-shirt.

Ruth sighed, cradling the toddler. “No monster’s gonna hurt me, Annie. I hurt the monsters, like your daddies. Remember?”

“Nobody’s gonna hurt your Wufie. She’s got Wolverine to protect her.” Adam then broke in sleepily, a set of keys poking out between his fingers in place of claws. Annie almost giggled, Adam growled playfully and Ruth rolled her eyes, looking at the shirt he was wearing. Wolverine, of course.

“Nerd.”

Ruth propped Annie up a little better, looking at her.

“Can I sweep wif you?” the nearly three year old asked quietly, her bottom lip wavering.

Ruth exchanged a look with Adam, nodding.

“Yeah, okay.” She let the toddler clamber under the blanket, settling herself at Ruth’s side. Ruth’s wings folded around to form a loose cocoon around the child, and Annie snuggled into them. Adam rolled over to tug the lamp’s switch again, dropping the keys back atop the dresser. He then rolled back over to snuggle into Ruth’s shoulder.

“Night Wufie. Night Adum.” Annie mumbled, snuggling into her warm feathery nest and her beloved “Pwetty” as she nestled down to sleep.

“Good night, Annie.” Ruth mumbled, settling down herself.

The only other sound that could be heard was a faint snore from over Ruth’s shoulder. Ruth rolled her eyes, settling back down to sleep.
have a little drabbly thing with Ruth and Annie because it wasn't leaving me alone. Look, I even sketched a preview. It's just this fluffy schmoopy crap, enjoy it. I don't know.
