So this month, April, is Autism Awareness month, or so I'm told.

Autism is obviously something I hold close to my heart. I don't exactly keep it a secret that I have two autistic siblings and love them both.

Autism is, at least for some, no damn walk in the park for them or the families. I've been in the back of a police van and yelled at in a public shower to start the list of situations I've been in because of my siblings. Enough about that, it hardly matters. But if you want to know the stories behind those, I'll tell you.

It can affect every aspect of their lives, understanding and learning. Just imagine how hard it was trying to explain to seven and eleven year old autistic children that their grandfather has passed away, particularly when there's nobody anywhere giving you advice. That's what my parents experienced.

Autism affects every single aspect of their lives, and in some cases they genuinely cannot lead a "normal" life because of their condition.

Having autism does not make them any less of a person.

My last point should be obvious enough, but apparently isn't. The amount of bullying and abuse that autistic people get is insane. And it's not fucking fair on them, if you have ever made a snide/cruel comment towards an autistic person then I seriously hope you wake up one day and realise what a douchecanoe you are. Seriously, not cool. You're a dick if you do.

Honestly I believe if more awareness was more commonplace, this ignorance wouldn't exist so much and this prejudice would at least be reduced.

So yeah. If you could take out a lil time this month to appreciate the hardships they go through and guide your decisions in the future... it would be appreciated.

One question yes it is good that there IS an autism awareness month but why so and what will happen in the other 11 moths of the year will it just be forgotten about or pushed under the carpet? Don't we all support Christmas 45 who valiantly battles on with it every day
